It’s indeed a pleasure to pen this message on the occasion of the 10th ASCoN conference Sri Lanka.
We have been fortunate to witness a bloom in development efforts with the dawn of a new era of peace and prosperity in the country. Alongside the pace of development, we have also witnessed the toll of industrial and road traffic accidents on the population to be on the rise. Most devastating of these are without doubt the spinal cord injuries whose impact on society is profound, as it is the young and active segment in our society who becomes victims to these unfair twists of fate.

I am delighted that the 10th ASCoN conference is being organised in Sri Lanka. The Asian Spinal Cord Network (ASCoN) consists of a group of organisations in the Asia region that have come together to share and learn from each other in all aspects of spinal injury management from initial treatment of the patient to re-integration of the person. The Network has evolved as a catalyst for positive change in the treatment, rehabilitation and community inclusion of people with spinal injury across the Asia region.

Message from President of Rheumatology and Medical Rehabilitation Association of Sri Lanka
On behalf of members of Sri Lanka Association for Rheumatology and Medical Rehabilitation, I warmly welcome all delegates to 10th ASCoN annual conference in Sri Lanka. It is a great privilege for our association to be a partner in hosting this conference in Sri Lanka.
Our members play a pivotal role in medical rehabilitation and social integration of these patients by leading the team of care givers. The Rheumatology and Rehabilitation Hospital at Ragama, headed by our members, is the center of excellence for spinal injury rehabilitation in Sri Lanka. We were also able to set up peripheral centers of spinal injury care in Kandy, Polonnaruwa and Galle.
